Hi Everyone,

It’s finally here! The season openers start this weekend!
AND our Home Run Fence is up and waiting for action.

It’s a new look season with all Senior games played on Saturdays and
just Juniors and WL Div 1s on Sundays.

Our Div 1 team will play Glenelg at Home on Saturday from 4pm. Our first HOME game!
The Div 3 team will start off the series from 11:10am followed by our Div 2 team from 1:30pm.

Peter Trenorden’s Family will be in attendance with Peter’s son, Steve, throwing out the first pitch for the Div 1 game.
Peter was our most senior Life Member who recently passed away and loved to come out and watch the games. RIP Peter

The Women’s League Div 2 and Div 3 games are played on Fridays from 29 October at 6pm and subsequently,
their fixtures haven’t been posted as yet. Be patient, ladies.

BTW: Our WL 2 team is coached by Ethan Murphy.
The two WL 3 teams are coached by Branden (Dipper) Diplock and Scott Coxhill, respectively. My bad ☹

ARMCHAIR UMP: YOU MAKE THE CALL
Situation: Two balls, two strikes, bases empty, no outs.
The pitcher winds up and fires the next pitch wildly into the backstop.

The quick-thinking batter flails at the wild pitch as it sails by…
enabling him to reach first base before the catcher can retrieve the ball.
What’s your call?

NEW GAME EQUIPMENT TO BE WORN
This season, ALL base coaches are to wear a skull cap when coaching the bases.
This pertains to ALL grades from U11 up, WL and State League teams.

Each team’s kit bag has two skull caps to comply with this new ruling.
Wear them for your safety.

WELCOME, KYLIE LINEEN! – OUR CLUB’S UMPIRE COORDINATOR
Kylie Lineen has come forward to take on the role of our Club’s Umpire Coordinator.
Please make her feel welcome and give her your kindest cooperation while she fulfills this challenging role.

This season will see a different approach to securing Umpires for our Home games.
Our Baseball Operations Director, Kristen Webb, will soon post a schedule showing when Senior teams will be rostered to provide an Umpire. Heads up!

The Baseball League Umpires will be assigned to our Div 1,2 and 3 games, but all other Home games will require Club umpires assigned by Kylie.
For Sunday & Friday WL games, some of the League Umpires may be available.

It is up to those available League Umpires to notify Kylie of their willingness to umpire some of our Home games on Sundays and Fridays when they are available.
When our Home games require umpires, she will contact them in the first instance to see if they are available and go from there.
After that, she will assign our Club umpires for those Sunday and Friday games – in addition to the rostered Senior players.

She is compiling a list of players who may be available to umpire our Home games.
If you are interested, please send her your email, mobile number or FB Messenger (PM) with your name and contact details.

Her email addy is <mailto:klineen68@gmail.com> klineen68@gmail.com and can be reached on 0432 541 689.
Thank you all for your support – remember: there are NO games without an Umpire!

Club umpires are paid $20 per game plus a $10 Dodger card.
Spare counters are available at the canteen.

CLUB NIGHT: MEALS & TEAM SELECTIONS
State League team selections will once again, take place on Thursday evenings.
Make sure your Coach knows of your availability to play.

Meals will be dished up by our Senior and Women’s teams for the Thursday Night Meal Deal.
(See your team’s roster dates below).

First off the plate Div 8. They will be serving –
Chicken/Bacon Burgers & Chips $5

Make plans to stay after training -or just come around- for a meal and catch up with your mates.
All members are welcome.

Team rosters for cooking are below:
(If you wish to swap weeks, please let Andy know.)

Same as last year – ingredients will be there ready for you to cook and serve.

PITCH COUNTS
State League and Women’s have changed (see below).
Juniors remain the same as last season. A Pitch Count form can be found in the clubrooms.

DIAMOND MAINTENANCE
Please remember to groom the diamond after your game. Parents can help too. 😊
When raking or brushing the cut-outs, be sure to work from the outside inwards to prevent mounding up of the edges.

A lot of pride and effort by Gavin and his crew have gone into making our grounds look their absolute best, so please respect their efforts.
Don’t be bashful, lend a hand.

At the end of the day after grooming the diamond, be sure the area is clean, empty trash bins, recycle bottles and cans and lock up.
On the Main Diamond, be sure the three Home Run fence gates are opened before leaving.

T-BALL – COMING SOON…Tell your friends!
‘Come n Try’ sessions on Monday, 18 October and Friday, 22 October from 6-7pm at our grounds.

We will have four stations for both divisions – U8s and U10s.
Volunteers are needed to host each station: Throwing, Fielding, Hitting and Base Running.

If you are available to help for one hour, your assistance will be greatly appreciated!
Just rock up a little before 6pm and I will be most happy to see you there! 😊

It’s a lot of fun showing our future players how to play baseball.
Games start on 29 October 2021. (Same as WL 2 & 3 games)

T-BALL UMPIRES WANTED
Junior baseball players who are interested must attend our one-hour Umpire Clinic to be held on Tuesday, 26 October from 6pm. (Subject to change)
One of our Baseball League Umpires will be our instructor for the session.

Our T-Ball, one-hour games start the following Friday night at 6pm from 29 October.
We use two umpires for each of our diamonds. A test will be given prior to the games starting.

At the end of the game and the field equipment is put away,
each umpire is given an honorarium of $10 plus a $10 Dodger Dollar voucher for umpiring the one-hour game.
If you are interested, please rock up on the day just before 6pm and get your name on the list.

HOSE REEL THEFT
Last weekend, the hose reel for the top diamond was stolen under cover of darkness.
The thieves cut the chain wire from the dugout door closest to home plate.

Thanks to Andy and Rob for doing the temporary fix.
Be careful when using the gate as some sharp wires may bite you. It is soon, to be fixed properly.

NEXT EVENT – DODGER’S HALLOWEEN PARTY!
Save the date: Saturday, 30 October – For a ghoulish good time!

ARMCHAIR UMP: YOU MAKE THE CALL
Answer: Give the batter credit for his quick thinking.
Since the receiver did not catch ‘strike three’ the batter may advance in this situation.
Safe at first! (a ‘dropped third strike’ ruling)

TIP FOR THE DAY….Watch your pitch count!

Have a fun weekend!
Cheers,
Bob
