Hi Everyone,
Summer is BACK! And Oh, what a feeling!
After a week of cool, rainy and wintery type weather, we finally got our summer season back!
The weekend started out great. Coach DR brought our Div 1 team to defeat the Adelaide Angels at their new ground on Sunday 11-3. Our bats were hot!
Then, on our Tuesday Twilight Home game, he guided our team to defeat Kensington 4-1! Well done, DR!
It was a great night for the Tuesday Twilight game. It was a balmy summer’s eve (27C).
Lots of members out to cheer on the Home team and a great night for families with their kids.
Also, some of the T-ball teams were training, both U11 teams and Dippers Div 2 WBL team were all training on the night.
It was a sea of activity at Dodger Town!
We have another Twilight Home game next Tuesday (16 Feb) v Henley & Grange. (This was rescheduled due to Covid during an earlier round).
Make a date for an evening of fun at the ballpark. Come out for a beer and a snag! This is what baseball is all about – an atmosphere of fun and relaxation with fellow Club members!
Our Div 1s have a BYE this weekend, but our Div 2 and Div 3 will play the Gawler Rangers at Home on SATURDAY from 12:30pm!
We have quite a few Home games this coming weekend.
Friday sees our Div 3 WBL team at Home coached by Rob Walsh playing Henley and Grange.
T-Ball games are playing on the Main diamond area too. Another fun night at Illyarrie.
Saturday morning starts off from 10am seeing Stuart’s Div 7 Red take on Gawler while Gary’s Div 7 Blue verse Playford.
Then, from 12:30pm it’s our Div 3s v Gawler and Steve’s Div 6 team v West Torrens.
From 3pm on the Main Diamond, our Div 2 team takes on the Gawler Rangers. All on Saturday!
Only a few weeks left of baseball, so come out and get your fix NOW. 😊
The grounds are looking great too – a thing of beauty (Thanks, Gav!)
ARMCHAIR UMPIRE – YOU MAKE THE CALL
Situation: One out…Runner on Third base…Two strikes on the batter.
The runner is stealing home and the pitch hits him in the back of the head in the batter’s strike zone.
Is the runner sent back to third? (see below).
JUNIOR/SENIOR TRAINING NIGHT
Next Thursday evening (18/2) from 6PM, DR, our Club’s Senior Coach, will be providing a night for our Juniors to train with our Sunday Seniors.
It was originally scheduled for tonight, 11 Feb, but due to the forecast of 37C, it was postponed until the following week.
The training session will finish with a complimentary PIE night (OK, some have chosen pasties or sausage rolls 😊) and a Fruit box.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet and train with our Div 1, 2 and 3 players.

Ticket sales close on Friday, 19 February 2021 with the main draw on Friday, 26 February. Woo Hoo!

So please consider purchasing the $2 lottery tickets as mentioned below in the ‘people’s choice COMMUNITY LOTTERY’.
Tell your friends, your family and/or workmates.
It’s easy to do and a great way to put back into the community. Only a few weeks left to the Super draw!
We pocket 100% of every $2 ticket sold! Let that sink in – 100%!
Be sure to get your chance to win while helping our Club raise some much-needed revenue towards our Indoor Training Facility.

BUNNINGS BBQ: Sunday, 21 February, 2021
This is another fun opportunity to get involved with our Club members off the field!
We will need five volunteers per shift – a big ask.
If you can assist, there are three shifts:
8am – 11am
11am -2pm
2pm – 5pm (Close)
If you are available, please contact/text/PM Mia on 0424 860 585.
And remember, fully enclosed shoes are to be worn. 😊
PITCHING DRILLS FOR ACCURACY
A high velocity fastball is nothing if the pitcher can’t control it.
Control is the key when you’re on the mound.
During bull pen practice, with a batter serving as a reference for your aim, work with your catcher setting up where to aim to throw your pitches:
10-15 pitches inside, then 10-15 pitches outside.
If you can do this, you will be hard to hit throwing to these spots.
Per Champion Youth Baseball Coach Branndon Pezzelle of the Detroit Tigers.
50 CLUB – REVERSE DRAW
The draws are underway and our first number to be drawn last Thursday was #23 – Jake Shotton. Congratulations!
Second draw tonight – Club Night. A great night for a coldy. (37C forecasted).
Steve Conry will be hosting the 50 Club’s reverse draw on Saturday,6 MARCH.
Plus 5 x weekly draws to catch up while Happy Hour (Free drinks 😊) takes place for all participants.
Remember, third to last draw wins $100, second to last number wins $300 and the last number in the barrel wins $700!
Another fun night to be sure not to miss – for those who chose a number 😊.
ARMCHAIR UMPIRE RULING -DID YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CALL?
No. The runs counts, but the batter is called out on the strike three.
TIP FOR PLAYING SUMMER SPORT – KEEP HYDRATED! (Life can be so complicated these days 😊)
Have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Bob
