Dear members and supporters,

We hope you are all having a wonderful off-season so far, whether you are playing winter baseball in our local Surrey Downs Winter Baseball Club or other local leagues, other winter sports or just enjoying a well-earned break with your family.

While it may be the off-season for most of us, there is a lot of planning behind the scenes from our volunteers and coaches for the season ahead. Please keep an eye out on Facebook for the most up to date information.

If you are not returning this season, and do not wish to receive updates from the club anymore, please respond indicating so and we will remove you from our mailing list. If your information is out of date, please let us know as well so we can update our records.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND BOARD UPDATE
On Thursday, 13 June 2024 the club held our Annual General Meeting for the year.

This was a well attended night with 36 members in attendance! It’s great to see a lot of enthusiasm for things happening around the club and the discussions there were held on the night.

There were several vacancies left unfilled on the night, but within the next couple of weeks the club had already filled these vacancies with some passionate club members stepping forward.

We thank Liv Trembath, Fay Hart, and Tessa Diplock for providing their time and dedication to the club over the last several seasons on the club’s board. Every bit of help that has been provided from all our volunteers is greatly appreciated.

We also welcome Matthew Burns, Bob Neiswander and Dallas Pearks who will be joining the board this season, and the return of our existing directors who are all eagering to keep our club strong and sustainable, while continuing to build our club in all areas.

The 2024/25 GGCD Board of Directors are the following:
Chairperson and Director of Senior Baseball Operations: Shaun Evans
Director of Finance: Sharee Forrester
Director of Administration: Scott Coxhill
Director of Junior Baseball Operations: Andy Weeks
Director of Women’s Baseball Operations: Matthew Burns
Director of In-House Operations: Anne Christensen
Director of Sponsorship and Grants: Bob Neiswander
Director of Equipment, House and Grounds: Gavin Payne
Director of Fundraising and Social: Dallas Pearks

On the night as well, the membership voted Greg Rodgers and Scott Coxhill to be awarded player life membership, a deserving honour for two players who have commited a lot to the club playing wise, and through coaching, umpiring and volunteering over the years. Well done!

PERFECT GAME WORLD WOOD BAT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Over the next couple of weeks, two of our junior players, Owen Hughes and Lachlan Vine, will be participating in the Perfect Game World Wood Bat National Championships in the Hoover/Birmingham area of Alabama, USA.

Brandon Manzella from our Division 1 squad will also be attending this tournament as Head Coach.

Nine players from South Australia are joining up with their counterparts in Victoria to form a combined team known as the Mighty Termites.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR COACHING THIS SEASON
As we prepare for the 2024-25 baseball season, we are seeking formal expressions of interest for coaches for the upcoming season.

We are currently intending to teams across most divisions in State League, Women’s League and Junior grades, with some exceptions which will be communicated.

Please note, we are again requesting all coaches this season to obtain the relevant coaching accreditation deemed necessary by BaseballSA, and the club will assist in this process if required.

There will be coaches meetings in the off-season and in preparation for the upcoming season and academies that will be communicated appropriately.

Please email your interest to secretary@ggcdbaseball.com.au outlining your intended grade you are wanting to coach, and any supporting material necessary.

SURREY DOWNS WINTER BASEBALL CLUB
Over the winter months, Illyarrie Reserve becomes home to the Surrey Downs Winter Baseball Club, a fun, inclusive, family-orientated winter competition for players young and old.

This competition has seen father and son/daughter, mother and daughter/son, husband and wife, and even grandparents participating with their family members.

This competition thrives from the hard work behind the scenes and on the day of club legends Roger Prime and Bob Neiswander, come out and see for yourself on a Saturday.
